Batteries

In a newer car it is better to keep the battery in, it could mess with the computer to remove it. For older vehicles, it is better to disconnect and remove completely.

Make Sure it's Clean

It is imperitive to clean your vehicle. Clean it well in all crevices to remove dirt and grime to avoid corrosion and rust from forming.

Cover It

Use a vehicle cover to keep dust and debris that can accumulate over time. It isn't required to cover for storing but it will help keep it in better shape.

Jack it Up

If the vehicle will be sitting for a long period of time, it would be best to jack the vehicle up and place jack stands under the front and rear. This will help keep tires from developing flat spots.

Wipe Out Your Wiper Blades

Remove the blades and store them in the vehicle. Clean them well before storing, the blades can have a tendancy to stick to glass if left on for an extended period of time.

Fueling It

Be sure to drain the gas from the tank before storing. Old gas can oxidize and cause trouble when you start your vehicle again. If draining is not an option, use a stabilizer.

Ventilate, Keep the Air Flowing

Make sure you have good ventilation. When you open the door after extended storage you don't want to be met with a moldy musty smelling RV.

Retract It

Make sure the slide-outs are all pulled in when storing. This will keep your mechanical parts supported and there will be less chance for leaking and rusting.

Let the Light In

You may want to close the blinds but resist the urge. If for some reason there is a leak of some kind, the dark atmosphere will be the perfect environment for mold and mildew.

Drain It Dry

If there is even the slightest chance that there will be freezing, you should remove ALL water from the plumbing system including the hot water heater.

The Tires
